We are almost embarrassed by the fact that it took us so long to launch this feature however, it's finally here!
From today, all of the themes available in Lifeboat now support the option to include a Google map.
TL;DR
Under the customisation options of each theme, you'll find an option to add a Google map for your physical store. To set it up, you simply need to enter your address, and we take care of the rest.
Why would you want a Google map on your online store?
The main reason why you would want a Google map on your online store is to build trust. Especially if you have a history of being a brick-and-mortar store, your customers might not feel safe to shop online at first. Through branding, and a Google map an online store can also build more confidence towards new online customers, giving them peace of mind that if they have an issue they know where to find you.
How to set it up?
The process is easy;
- Login to your Lifeboat Admin Panel
- Go to the Design section
- Customise your currently active theme
- In the field labelled Google Maps (name might vary slightly from theme to theme) enter your physical address
- Click Save
More detailed instructions are also available on the theme's documentation; Lifeboat Themes User Manuals
My store is not listed on Google Maps...
If you have a physical store and you don't find it on Google Maps, it is probably because it hasn't been added to the map's directory yet. You may easily add your location on Google My Business.
Note: New locations can take anywhere between 1-8 weeks to be listed on Google maps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I add a Google Map if I only sell online?
If you have a physical address customers can visit we recommend setting up that location to build more trust. If on the other hand, you do not have a physical address customers can visit, this might not be the thing for you.
Can I add multiple locations?
Yes, but you need to write a bit of code. Officially we don't support adding multiple Google Maps on your online store however, if you're comfortable copying a little bit of code from the Google Maps site to your Lifeboat online store, then it can be done.
What happens if I move?
You'll need to update the address in your Lifeboat Admin Panel to update the map, to your new location.
Is it required to have a map?
Not at all. However, we do strongly recommend it if you have a physical address.
Conclusion
Adding Google Maps to your site can quickly boost confidence with your customers, and prospective customers. With Lifeboat it's easy to set it up, so if you haven't done so already, we recommend adding it today.
